How much should I spend on stocking fillers?

There's no right amount, and many families set a budget per child before they start. A stocking can be filled well with a handful of items under £5 each, plus a clementine and some chocolate coins. Agreeing a budget with grandparents or other gift-givers helps keep things fair between siblings.

What are good stocking fillers for toddlers?

Good stocking fillers for toddlers include board books, bath pouring cups, chunky crayons, stacking cups and soft toys labelled as suitable from birth. Always check the age label and avoid anything with small or detachable parts. Toys with hazards for under-threes must carry a warning such as 'Not suitable for children under 36 months'.

What can I put in a teenager's stocking?

Teenagers usually appreciate useful things they wouldn't buy themselves, such as a long phone charging cable, a phone stand, fluffy socks or a rechargeable hand warmer. Gift cards, skincare minis, a good book and a hot chocolate kit also go down well.

What are some cheap stocking filler ideas?

Cheap stocking filler ideas include a clementine, chocolate coins, homemade vouchers (like a later bedtime or choosing the family film), a new toothbrush, hair accessories and a seed kit. A handwritten letter or a 'golden ticket' for a planned day out costs very little but often means the most.
