When is the deadline for primary school applications in 2027?

In England, the deadline for September 2027 reception places is 15 January 2027. Closing times vary by council, so check yours. In Northern Ireland the deadline is 12 noon on 20 January 2027, and Welsh councils set their own dates.

When will I find out which primary school my child got?

National Offer Day in England is Friday 16 April 2027. Councils usually email online applicants that day, and Welsh councils also send primary offers on 16 April. In Northern Ireland, parents receive P1 outcomes on 18 March 2027.

Which children start reception in September 2027?

In England, children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023 are due to start reception in September 2027. Parents of summer-born children can ask for a delayed start, but they still need to apply by the January deadline.

How many schools can I put on my application?

It depends on your council. Many councils, including West Sussex, allow three preferences, while London councils allow six. Listing only one school does not increase your chances of getting it, so use every slot.

What happens if I apply for a primary school place late?

Late applications are usually considered after all on-time applications have been allocated, which can significantly reduce your chances of getting a preferred school. Some councils won't process late applications until after National Offer Day. Contact your council's admissions team as soon as possible.
