Finding a Babysitter on Short Notice: 10 Things To Look Out For

Finding a babysitter at the last minute is usually the most stressful type of childcare booking for parents. Whether it’s due to a long-standing babysitting arrangement falling through, a late-running meeting or the offer of last-minute gig tickets, no parent wants to feel that they’re booking ‘good enough’ childcare. What’s more, by the time they’ve contacted all the options in their address book, it may well be too late. Last-minute doesn’t have to mean compromising on peace of mind bubble has been designed so that parents can post a job and find vetted, trusted sitters in their area as quickly …

DBS & CRB checks – all the information you need

We’ve all heard of CRB and DBS checks – they’re ubiquitous terms in the childcare sector. But what do they really mean and how should they be used? This article will take a look at what CRB/DBS checks are, how babysitters can get one, their strengths and limitations and more importantly, the additional steps parents can take to ensure that their kids are in safe hands. What is a DBS check? ‘DBS’ stands for ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’. A DBS check is essentially a report of somebody’s criminal record. There are different types of DBS checks, which we cover later …

Safe sits during social distancing for parents

bubble’s Sarah Zeqiri offers some advice on how to work with your sitter to stay in line with Government social distancing guidelines, ensure safe sits and build brilliant relationships with sitters. Good fences make good neighbours: I love this old saying and it applies perfectly to a working relationship. If everybody knows what’s expected of them, it keeps misunderstandings to a minimum. During social distancing, we may not all be looking for babysitters but if you’re a key worker, it might still be necessary to get someone in to look after the your kids while you’re out looking after everyone …

How to find a babysitter at short notice

You’re in the midst of a hectic day when you get a call from a friend, “still on for tonight, hope you haven’t forgotten?!” “Of, course – as if I’d forget.” You lie. Now, back in your pre-parenting years, this wouldn’t have been a problem – you’d get home, change and head on out. Today, however, is different. There are extra mouths to feed and little people to get …

What’s in a name?

One of the hardest decision we’ve had to make so far has been what to call our app. I think decisions like these are tough for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s something that everyone will have an opinion on – irrespective of age, experience profession or perspective. We’re all qualified to say whether we like a name or not and opinions differ wildly. It’s a bit like a TV advert – any viewer naturally and instinctively forms an opinion on whether it’s “any good” or not, making everyone an expert in their own right. Another difficulty is that you’re having …

Express Book is here

We’re really excited about a new feature we’ve just released called Express Book. Express Book, allows a parent in need of a babysitter at short notice (today or tomorrow) to post up their sit requirements. They then get a shortlist back of willing babysitters, and confirm the sit with the one that’s right for them. It also allows for local babysitters to bid for the work in real time. It’s early days, but so far, on average, Express Book has been providing potential babysitters to parents in less than one minute – 43 seconds to be precise! You can watch a video …

A failed experiment

Here’s something you probably knew: us parent’s don’t really like sharing our babysitters. Even your most solid, selfless all round do-gooder friend that’ll drop everything for you 99% of the time can be found wanting when asked for the phone number of the amazing sitter that helped them out last week. The same one they instantly regretted ever mentioning to you as soon as they saw your step spring and eyes light up. What’s more, this behaviour is in no way frowned upon, even by the person on the receiving end of it. “Fair enough, I’d do the same” is …

We’re so pleased to launch our charity partnership with Tommy’s, an amazing organisation, not only carrying out ground-breaking research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth but also providing critical support to parents and families affected. Now, parents using bubble to book their babysitters are able to add a “Tip for Tommy’s” when paying for their sit, and whenever they do, we’ll be donating our £3.50 booking fee to the charity as well. Tommy’s operates four research centres across the UK investigating the causes and treatments for miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. The centres also host clinics where pregnant women at …
