Katie Maughan, bubble sitterIn the process of getting bubble off the ground, we’ve been fortunate enough to meet and talk to lots of fantastic babysitters, boasting all kind of talents, backgrounds and experience.

It made us think that we’d like to showcase some of the hero sitters we’re lucky enough to have on the app, so we decided to start a regular feature on the blog – Meet the Sitter – in which we ask one of the bubble babysitters nine questions about them (10 felt a bit clichéd….) and why they enjoy the work they do.

First up, is Katie Maughan, a full-time nanny and travel enthusiast (check out her own blog here.)

bubble: Hi Katie, to kick off why don’t you describe yourself to us in three words

KM: Fun, giving, consistent

bubble: What’s your day-job Katie, why do you do what you do?

KM: I have been a Nanny for a year today! I love working with the kids and living with them really makes me feel like a respected part of the family.

bubble: What is it about working with kids that you enjoy so much?

KM: I feel like I understand children very well and they seem to be at great ease in my company. I am good at setting clear boundaries as well as having fun and I feel like I leave a good lasting impression with children I have looked after!

bubble: Tell us a bit about your qualifications…

Academically, I have a BSC in Psychology. In terms of childcare-related qualifications I’m DBS checked and am also First Aid qualified. I was also recently given the ‘best nanny ever award’ by the 3 year old in my care – the one I’m most proud of for sure 🙂

bubble: And other than him, if you could babysit for anyone in the world, who would it be?

KM: Tough question! He doesn’t need babysitting in any more but if I could look after him as a child I’d have to go with Stephen Fry. As for the here and now…Prince George and Princess Charlotte!

bubble: Interesting choices there! For us, and parents like us, a good sitter is a superhero. What would you say are your special powers?

KM: The power to calm a confused or upset mind.

bubble: Nice! When you’re not working, what do you like to do? What are you favourite hobbies?

KM: Sketching, spinning and travel – I’ve got my own travel blog which I do for a bit of fun on the side.

bubble: Right now you’re living in Queens Park, what do you like most about it?

KM: I love being so close to the park as well as having the feeling that I am not quite in London – there’s much more peace and quiet here compared to somewhere more central.

bubble: And finally – what is it about bubble that appeals to you? Why did you sign up?

KM: I really like the recommendation aspect of the app and the ability to take on work last minute – it’s the flexibility that really suits what I’m after.

Thanks Katie! Being first up is never easy, so we appreciate the bravery!
