Babysitting rates: what should you pay a babysitter in the UK?

Since we all need a break from looking after the kids from time to time, you could argue that babysitters pretty much prop up our society. They’re lifesavers that keep us sane. But finding a good, reliable babysitter isn’t without its problems. In general, when it comes to sorting out babysitters, there are 2 problems: where do you find a good babysitter and how much should you pay your babysitter? This article is about the second issue: that of babysitting rates. In the UK, what should you expect to pay a babysitter? It’s actually a key issue, because the differences

Helping Parents & Sitters Just Say Yes!

We’ve just put out a new version of our app and it’s one we’re really excited about. This is mainly because amongst the many fixes and improvements is new functionality allowing our sitters to schedule their availability for the next fortnight. Now, sitters will only show up in a parent’s search if they’ve told the app they’re available on that day and in that time slot (“daytime” & “evening”.) We’re excited about this for two reasons: It’s something both parents and sitters have been asking us for since day one. Parents understandably only want to see the babysitters that can

Parents on bubble are doing what?

Having survived the summer, and now having successfully navigated back to school week, parents have been using bubble to arrange themselves some well-earned “me time”. We thought we’d share some of the things that the app’s allowed them to get out and do: Book a 7 am sitter for a rare Saturday morning lie-in; Take a 2-hour trip to Tesco in peace and quiet; Get to the cinema for the first time in years; Take out the bike for a 50m ride; Meet friends for an impromptu & overdue night out; Get to the gym to work-off some holiday excess It’s been great

We’re hiring! Senior Developer

Senior Developer – Bubble We are the UK’s first on-demand babysitting app, helping parents find and book local babysitters that their friends already know, use and trust. We’re taking a completely different approach to the traditional childcare agency model. Harnessing Big Data, machine learning and beautiful customer experiences to deliver an on-demand experience that millions of parents can trust and love. Underpinning our proposition is a proprietary social graph that uses various customer and community data points to connect parents to babysitters via mutual friends and places. Why are we doing this? Because when it comes to babysitting, there’s nothing

‘Surprise’ Pets & Tipsy Parents

As you can probably guess, we’ve spent a fair bit of time talking to parents and sitters about the ‘fun’ that comes with organising a babysitter. Every tiny nugget of information and insight continues to be a massive help in developing bubble, but we thought why should we keep this to ourselves? So here it is, fellow parents – our top 10 most annoying habits according to the sitters we asked (186 to be exact) who were just too nice to tell you themselves. Is it cheeky or the result of tired people being ‘over-enthusiastic’ on a rare night off?

Meet the Sitter – Episode #2

In the process of getting bubble off the ground, we’ve been fortunate enough to meet and talk to lots of fantastic babysitters, boasting all kind of talents, backgrounds and experience. It made us think that we’d like to showcase some of the hero sitters we’re lucky enough to have on the app, so we decided to start a regular feature on the blog – Meet the Sitter.  This time, we caught up with Mary Savvides; Events Manager, First Aider and Master Baker…   bubble: Hi Mary, to kick off why don’t you describe yourself in three words MS: I’m bubbly, positive

“Meet the Sitter”

In the process of getting bubble off the ground, we’ve been fortunate enough to meet and talk to lots of fantastic babysitters, boasting all kind of talents, backgrounds and experience. It made us think that we’d like to showcase some of the hero sitters we’re lucky enough to have on the app, so we decided to start a regular feature on the blog – Meet the Sitter – in which we ask one of the bubble babysitters nine questions about them (10 felt a bit clichéd….) and why they enjoy the work they do. First up, is Katie Maughan, a

A failed experiment

Here’s something you probably knew: us parent’s don’t really like sharing our babysitters. Even your most solid, selfless all round do-gooder friend that’ll drop everything for you 99% of the time can be found wanting when asked for the phone number of the amazing sitter that helped them out last week. The same one they instantly regretted ever mentioning to you as soon as they saw your step spring and eyes light up. What’s more, this behaviour is in no way frowned upon, even by the person on the receiving end of it. “Fair enough, I’d do the same” is

5 great apps for busy parents

When my first kid Zeb arrived, amidst all the fun and excitement, I do remember thinking to myself that parenting was just too hard! Atara and I used to laugh about it but in all seriousness, for all of the innovation we’ve seen since the dawn of the internet, parenting’s not really gotten much easier to the extent that it has for almost everything else we do. The idea for bubble only came a couple years later and in helping parents find a babysitter easily, I’d like to think we’re doing our bit, but we’re not the only ones –
